Double Wedding Ring

The double wedding ring pattern was first published in 1928. It is a traditional design that features interlocking rings, which symbolizes marriage. This quilt is traditionally made by mothers for their children and is usually given on their wedding day. It was traditionally made by using a white background with different fabrics making the rings. The different fabrics used in the rings were often scraps that the quilter had from other projects. This gave it much sentimental value. Traditionally the quilt has the rounded edges from the rings, but the pattern has evolved and is now usually made square, which adds size to the quilt, and makes it easier to bind. (Blyth, 2018)

            This quilt is a full size and was made by my great grandma for my grandma for her wedding day 60 years ago in January. It is made of 100% cotton material and a synthetic batting. While talking with my grandma about her quilt she said that she has never used it. It is an heirloom that has been in her cedar chest and preserved. This quilt holds much sentimental value to my grandma, and it was fun to talk to her and have her reminisce about the fabrics that were used in the quilt, as most of them were scraps from many dresses and quilts that my great grandmother had made for her when she was growing up.
