Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs
3 cups canned or cooked pumpkin
4 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 large package chocolate chips

Cream together shortening and sugars.  Beat in eggs and pumpkin.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  Drop onto cookie sheets.  Bake at 375 for 13-15 minutes.
